finding fall

I don't think leaves turn shades of yellow, red and orange here in Prescott Valley.  I think the one rebellious tree stands in our front yard.  Our little maple, or whatever it is, turned beautiful red, declaring the first days of fall, yet I don't think hardly any others in our little valley have followed suit.  Therefore, we traveled north to Flagstaff this weekend, to find some fall.

We ended up in Lockett Meadow, claimed by one of my friends (thanks Dana) to be the closest thing I will get to Colorado while staying grounded in Arizona.  Absolutely gorgeous.  And, yes, it did feel like Colorado.

The end of the week had some lower temperatures, but for some reason, I didn't even think about snow.  So, we were (pleasantly) surprised when we got out of the car to head out on our hike, that there was about 3-4" snow on the ground.  For some reason, living in Arizona, I think every time I see snow I am shocked, as if snow should not touch the ground within the four borders enclosing our state just because... well, it is Arizona!  Land of saguaro cactus, snakes and scorpions.  Other "S-es" belong, but not Snow!

Yet, there it was.  And, on top of it, a layer of gold aspen leaves.

I think we said "squirrel" hence the excited look.

Hiking up a golden river.

Family picture.  Aloof Maeby.

Rebellious Aspen tree.  Not only is it laying sideways.  But it is also green.

Family picture take one.  Taken at about the time when Maeby bit Ryan in the thigh.  But, let's be honest, if he was standing on your foot, you would bite him too.

Take 2.  More along the lines of "Christmas-Card-Worthy."

Beautiful Lockett Meadow.
